The Youth Orchestra of Lewiston-Auburn (YOLA) is a string orchestra providing the orchestral experience for young musician creating excitement and passion in music through a committed approach to performing. Playing in an ensemble develops teamwork, camaraderie, and a sense of community while enhancing individual skills.
YOLA is directed by Linda Vaillancourt, who earned her undergraduate music degree from the University of Southern Maine and her Master’s in viola performance from the University of Maine. For over a decade, Linda has taught students from pre-K to high school seniors. She currently teaches band and orchestra at North Yarmouth Academy. Actively involved in ASTA and NafME/MMEA, Linda has served as orchestra vice president and manager of the Maine All-State Orchestra. She frequently performs as violist in the Bangor Symphony, Maine Chamber Ensemble, and Maine Music Society.
YOLA Prep is directed by Jessie Boardman. Jessie Boardman has over 30 years of experience playing the violin and over 15 years teaching students of all ages the violin in both classical and traditional fiddling genres. She teaches in her private studio, at Sandy Island Suzuki Camp, and at Maine Fiddle Camp. Jessie is a member of the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra and has played with the Bates Orchestra and Maine Music Society. She has a Masters of Education, and her favorite thing to do is to help other people accomplish goals they never thought they could accomplish.
Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings at Free Grace Presbyterian Church (160 Canal St, Lewiston).
YOLA Prep: 6:00-7:00 pm
YOLA: 7:00-8:00 pm
The first rehearsal is January 8.
Bring your instrument and a pencil.
This includes weekly rehearsals and two performances.
